From Leeds to Northumberland
Born in Leeds, Lisa endured a difficult childhood – partially sighted and removed from her birth parents and into foster care until, along with her siblings, she was adopted. A ground-breaking operation restored her sight to an acceptable level but dyslexia combined with lack of confidence made her an easy target for school bullies. “It was a difficult time but I guess it has made me more resilient.”
A work accident causing irreparable damage to her back left Lisa unable to take a regular 9-5 job. By now a single mother, she made the life-changing decision to leave the big city and move to rural Northumberland. “I had visited a friend there and fell in love with the place and the people and decided that this was where I wanted to bring up my son, Luca,” says Lisa, “and I’ve never regretted it.”
