Our Story

How we started

LL Cool Jellys is the brainchild of Yorkshire lass Lisa Crosby. This innovative new form of wax melt is such an improvement on the traditional products on the market that as soon as she tried them, Lisa was inspired to make them herself and her burgeoning small business was born.

“I’ve always loved to have fresh fragrances in my home whether it be candles, melts or any of the other multitudes of products out there,” says Lisa, “but they were all either expensive, messy or simply didn’t last long enough. Jelly wax melts are longer lasting, re-usable and leave no residue to clean from your burner.”

“I realised I was getting headaches and a tight chest when I used wax melts or candles,” Lisa states. “I didn’t realise it was because I was allergic to soya. So I started looking for something different, but there wasn’t anything. That is how LL Cool Jellys was born.”

From Leeds to Northumberland

Born in Leeds, Lisa endured a difficult childhood – partially sighted and removed from her birth parents and into foster care until, along with her siblings, she was adopted. A ground-breaking operation restored her sight to an acceptable level but dyslexia combined with lack of confidence made her an easy target for school bullies. “It was a difficult time but I guess it has made me more resilient.”

A work accident causing irreparable damage to her back left Lisa unable to take a regular 9-5 job. By now a single mother, she made the life-changing decision to leave the big city and move to rural Northumberland. “I had visited a friend there and fell in love with the place and the people and decided that this was where I wanted to bring up my son, Luca,” says Lisa, “and I’ve never regretted it.”

A new chapter

A fully qualified nail technician, Lisa worked from home and built a loyal group of customers, winning numerous National and International awards for her nail designs, until the onset of Fibromyalgia meant she had to scale down her workload. She maintains a few select clients for nails but has now switched her focus to the jelly wax business.

“I have always loved handicrafts,” says Lisa, “and when I discovered how much better jelly wax melts are than the products I had been using, I was inspired to try making my own. I gave some to friends and family and everyone loved them as much as I do. I took a stall at a craft fair and they sold quite well, and I was overwhelmed by the feedback and customer reviews from day one.”

“I now attend craft fairs and events on a weekly basis and the whole set-up is perfect for me. I can work on making the product on days when my pain is more manageable and rest when I need to. I have a wonderful friend called Jonathan who drives me to the events and helps me set up the stall – he is the Robin to my Batman!”

The range today

Lisa has now expanded her product range to include room fragrance sprays, car air fresheners, decorative glassware items, carpet freshener and vacuum cleaner pods, plus gift boxes containing samples from the range – all available in an extensive collection of fragrances to suit every taste.

Each product is hand made with love in the garden workshop of her Northumberland home. They are vegan friendly, cruelty free and pet safe. Lisa is currently developing a website for internet sales, which she hopes will expand the business further.

“I am looking forwards to what the next few years brings,” Lisa adds.

In Lisa’s words

“If my products can make my customers’ homes feel more like home, that would be a beautiful outcome for me.”
